CBT for Tinnitus E-Programme
CBT4T is a CBT programme specifically designed to improve the lives of those suffering with tinnitus. Enjoy 10% off when you sign up with code TINNITUSUK10, and a further 10% will be donated to Tinnitus UK.
Established in 2009 as the 6 module internet-based Tinnitus E-Programme (TEP), the course became therapist-supported in 2018 following outcomes of an independent evaluation by Nottingham Hearing and Biomedical Research Centre (NHBRC).
The 12 part CBT for Tinnitus E-Programme intervention was developed in 2020 specifically to meet the needs of those with very distressing tinnitus, level of distress defined as a Tinnitus Functional Index (TFI) at 54% and above (TFI categories 4 and 5). Over the years since 2020, the course has also proven suitable for those with TFI category 3 (32-53%).
Online-learning is combined with clinical support including 1-1 appointments, email support, logs, weekly reporting and bespoke CBT tools. The user is guided step by step through the neuroscience-informed CBT process, at a pace determined by the user’s individual needs and responsibilities, to the ultimate objective of the programme: that tinnitus has little influence in day to day living.
The course has its content regularly reviewed and updated. The latest fully updated version (August 2023) is the fourth generation, and has a new shortened title: CBT4T
Progress & Outcomes
Before enrolment, everyone completes a Tinnitus Functional Index (TFI):
- 40% of users evaluate tinnitus as a very big problem (Category 5 TFI)
- 40% of users evaluate tinnitus as a big problem (Category 4 TFI)
- 20% of users evaluate tinnitus as a moderate problem (Category 3 TFI)
The aim is for users to complete the process having reduced their TFI to at least Category 2 (tinnitus is a small problem)*
*With additional developments in the programme during 2023-24, many have reduced their TFI to category 1 (tinnitus is not a problem).
Clinical measures, including the Tinnitus Functional Index (TFI), are used to track progress and final outcomes: Tinnitus Handicap Inventory (THI), GAD-7 (anxiety), PSS (stress) and ASQ (Anxiety/Stress Symptoms Q.
Supporters of Tinnitus UK can enjoy 10% off the cost of enrolment. The CBT for Tinnitus E-Programme will also donate 10% to Tinnitus UK. Please use code TINNITUSUK10 when you enrol for 10% off.
