Member Session – Understanding and Managing Tinnitus
Live online workshops for Tinnitus UK members
Event details
Start Date
September 15 @ 9:30 am
End Date
September 29 @ 11:30 pm
Tinnitus UK is introducing a new programme of small-group online workshops for people living with tinnitus.
Led by an experienced tinnitus clinician and educator from UCL Ear Institute, these interactive workshops provide an opportunity to learn more about tinnitus, explore practical approaches to living with and managing its impact, ask questions and learn alongside others with similar experiences.
Unlike our regular webinars, these are small, interactive workshops, with a maximum of around 12 participants in each group. The programme takes place over two live online sessions, allowing plenty of time for discussion, activities and questions alongside structured learning.
What does the programme include?
The programme consists of two online sessions of approximately two hours each, designed to work together as a complete package.
Across the two sessions, we will explore tinnitus, how and why we experience it, some of the factors that can influence its impact, and practical approaches that can help you live well with tinnitus.
The workshops combine information and education with discussion, practical activities and opportunities to ask questions and share experiences with others.
We strongly encourage participants to attend both sessions to get the most from the programme.
Participants will also receive a copy of the workshop slides and relevant Tinnitus UK information and resources following the sessions.
Who is it for?
The workshops are designed for adults living with tinnitus who would like to develop their understanding of tinnitus and explore different ways of managing its impact.
You might find the programme particularly useful if you:
- are relatively new to tinnitus;
- have been living with tinnitus for some time but would like to understand it better;
- would like a structured introduction to understanding and managing tinnitus;
- would value learning alongside a small group of other people with tinnitus; or
- are considering joining a Tinnitus UK support group but would like to start with a short, structured programme.
You do not need any previous knowledge of tinnitus to take part.
A partner or family member is also welcome to join the sessions with you using the same device, if you feel this would be helpful.
Small groups, with time to participate
Each workshop cohort will have approximately 12 places.
Keeping the groups small means that participants can take part in activities, contribute to discussions and ask questions.
Places are limited, so we ask members only to book if they expect to be able to attend both sessions. We understand that circumstances can change, but please let us know as soon as possible if you are unable to attend so that we can offer your place to another member.
Accessibility
The workshops will take place online via Zoom and live captions will be available for participants with hearing difficulties.
If you have any other accessibility requirements that would help you take part in the workshops, please let us know when booking.
Free for Tinnitus UK members
The programme is free as part of your Tinnitus UK membership.
Places must be booked in advance and, because groups are deliberately kept small, availability is limited.
If a workshop is full, members will be able to register their interest in a future cohort.
Supporting the next generation of hearing health professionals
The workshops will also support teaching at the UCL Ear Institute, helping future hearing health professionals develop their understanding of tinnitus and the experiences of people living with it.
Students studying relevant UCL programmes may observe the online workshops as part of their learning and clinical education. Participants should therefore be comfortable with students being present during the sessions.
Workshop dates
The first programme will take place over two Tuesday mornings:
Tuesday 15 September – 9.30am–11.30am
Tuesday 29 September – 9.30am–11.30am
Both sessions will take place online via Zoom.
