The ratings are as follows:

Safety - whether the treatment will do you any harm

  • 3 Evidence of risk of significant harm
  • 2 Possible risk of significant harm
  • 2 Limited or unlikely potential for significant harm
  • 1 Rigorous evidence of safety, or only small risks/minor harms

Efficacy - whether the treatment works for tinnitus

  • 3 Evidence that it is not effective
  • 2 No or limited evidence that it is effective
  • 2 Some evidence that it is effective
  • 1 Evidence that it is effective
