ROOM ONE, 16:55: Tinnitus Stepped-Care: Toward Standardization of Tinnitus Clinical Services

Clinical services for tinnitus have expanded greatly since the 1970s. According to PubMed, close to 500 peer-reviewed publications with “tinnitus” in the title are published every year. With so much research and overall interest, it might be expected that tinnitus services have improved accordingly. In reality, there are many variations of treatment, but no one method has been proven to be more effective than any other. A proposed framework for providing tinnitus clinical services is called Tinnitus Stepped-Care.[1] This framework does not promote specific procedures for tinnitus assessment and treatment, but rather suggests guiding principles that are essential in each of six progressive steps of tinnitus clinical care. Tinnitus Stepped-Care also addresses sound hypersensitivity disorders, including hyperacusis and misophonia. This presentation will provide an overview of Tinnitus Stepped-Care.

ROOM TWO, 13:45: Exploring why sleep can make tinnitus vary in some tinnitus patients.
Robin will present on his work on tinnitus heterogeneity, notably through their action with Siopi, then will provide an overview of their recent findings on sleep-induced tinnitus loudness variations. Robin will look at Siopi’s work on understanding why 1 out of 5 tinnitus patients describes hearing their tinnitus louder following naps and why patients sometimes describe that sleep can act as an on-off switch in some tinnitus patients.
This session will be delivered by Robin Guillard
