The ratings are as follows:

Safety - whether the treatment will do you any harm

  • 1 Rigorous evidence of safety, or only small risks/minor harms
  • 2 Limited or unlikely potential for significant harm
  • 3 Possible risk of significant harm
  • 4 Evidence of risk of significant harm

Efficacy - whether the treatment works for tinnitus

  • 1 Robust evidence that it is effective against a placebo or sham treatment
  • 2 Clear evidence that it is effective compared to no treatment
  • 3 Limited evidence that it is effective
  • 4 No evidence that it is effective
  • 5 Evidence that it is not effective
